Perfect description. The 33/1.4 is pure fun.
I was on my way selling all my Fujifilm gear.

I don't do professional gigs, I have kids and the 33 f1.4 is phenomenal for family life. A bit wider than my 35f2 and so much faster auto focus. The 33 lives on my X-E4 and love pick up the camera and using it every day.

Thanks for the review you have a no nonsense approach from a working professional which is refreshingly honest. I have the 18 f1.4 and it's superb - a jump in image quality from Fujifilm. When the 33 1, 4 is available at my local camera store I'll be picking that up. I hear Fujufilm are working on a 56 1, 2 version 2 with the same 40 Mp resolution coming late next year. Fuijifilm lenses were part of the reason for switching from Canon DSLR systems.

Great points about the debate between the newer XF lenses and the older lenses when using commercial jobs - for you there’s no reason why you shouldn’t invest in yourself and I think all these new lenses are must haves for those who are getting paid.

For the hobbyists this lens isn’t worth the price or needed but for someone who’s going to beat the hell out of this lens in order to create something for clientele they are no brainer.

Couldn’t agree with you anymore,
Using the new 33mm for the past 3 gigs i am definitely selling the older
35 mm F1.4, Its unbelievably sharp and tracks subjects perfectly in Focus even when at F1.4, Its worth every cent.

Nice review. I do love my 35 f1.4 but it has its quirks. I use the 50-140 professionally (portraiture), but I think I'll trade out the 35 for the 33 as I need something fractionally wider and professional grade.

Very convincing and I totally agree for the 18 that I own. You definitely peaked my interest for the 33, although I really am looking forward to the new 23. ( and likely the new body with the 40MP totale full advantage of these new lenses)

Appreciate the presentation of getting to the topic, I’m not much for the babbling either, thank you. Just order the XT5. This is my 1st venture into FujiFilm, been considering the switch for a while.

Very informative. I’m thinking of buying the 18mm and selling my 16mm 1.4

I was hoping for something to convince me to get one over the other, but looks like both are better together. I put the 16mm on the xt4 and haven't switched it out for another lens since and its so close to the 18 in several ways that's tough to thinking about having both. The 18 looks like it will be better across the whole frame though. Advice I found helpful when starting out was to invest in good lenses and glass, and into lenses that are a joy to use.

Great honest review. You mentioned that both lenses weren't 100% perfect - but didn't expand on that. Was there anything in particular that irked about either lens ?.

New to Fuji. Love the 18 and 33. Would like to get the 90 but doubting. Because of the gap between the 33 and the 90. The new 56 is not all that. The viltrox 75 1.2 sounds great but not the fastest AF also. Tips on how to best fill the tele end?

Happy new year btw

Oh I really hope they make a new 56! I own both the 56 APD (for its small size and weight) and the 50 f1 (for its weather sealing and fast focusing). If they make a new 56, with weather sealing, I will be able to replace both those lenses with that new 56.

Btw, do you have any experience with the Laowa 33mm? I would love to hear how it compares to the Fuji 33mm. I can’t find anyone that owns both though.

FInd out your channel, happy to subscribe it.
Just one question after seing your thoughts on FUJI 1.4 lenses, and wondering your thoughts on the Viltrox since today i saw a video of Peter Coulson that was amazed by quality and rendering of the lens, believe it was also the 33

Thank you for the video! If you had to choose between the 23mm and the 33mm, which one would you choose?
