Magnesium Burning in Dry Ice.

Today, my students and I by burning (oxidizing) some Magnesium (Mg) in a block of dry ice - reduced the planet’s carbon-dioxide (CO2). OK, not by much. But here is the proof, i.e., the chemical equation for our reaction. Note that carbon dioxide is one of our reactants but not one of our products. 2Mg + C02 -yields- 2Mg0 + C
