Universal Audio 1176 Collection vs Hardware 1176

In this video, I demonstrate how to use the universal Audio 1176 Classic Limiter collection and compare it to a Hardware 1176 compressor. The Studio Rats are core band members Paul Drew on guitar/production/mixing, drummer James Ivey and Dan Hawkins on bass. They collaborate with singers and musicians to produce radio-ready songs.

Really great walkthrough. Just with the last comparison it looked like the hardware had a 12:1 ratio while the plug in was set to 4:1.

Nice, through my headphones, I prefered how the hardware made the reverb space sound clearer.

Behind Spark, I now have access to them.. I’ll see if I can find more videos on your channel talking about the stories and characteristics of the equipment/plugins and the demos.. thank you and lots of peace! 🙌🏽

I have been looking for 'vocal sustainer' for the last 45 years but nowhere to be created or found. Or no body ever though of before for vocal. There is instrument sustainer. I like the way you add reverb on this vocal. It sounds almost like you are using vocal sustainer.

Just wondering why the settings were so different when you compared the 6176 hardware to the 1176LN plugin? The hardware ratio was set to 12:1 but the plugin was set to 4:1. Was there a specific reason for this or was it a mistake?

Excuse me, but even before adding the plugins, the example already sounds like it was recorded in a 500 000-dollar studio with 22 sound engineers who won the world’s mixing contest, and then mastered by Tony Maserati, Chris Lorde-Alge, Mike Stent and Bruce Swedien jointly in two months. Couldn’t you select something rawer, recorded in a wooly garage on SM58?

Hey Paul, nice comparison. Hey, have you had issues with LUNA? I have had all kinds of bugs, two sessions crashed in a row. Im dealing with UA customer service but they practically dont know how to resolve it. Had to come back to Logic Pro X. Thanks man!

just as good.. well yes.. but not the same. The low end goodyness around 60-80 hz is way more compressed on the hardware. Yes, you can eq that. But still.. quite an audible difference, AND the hardware had a 12:1 ratio in the last part when the plugin had 4:1 ;-)

Shame that the GUI doesn't fit on Windows ...
You'd think they could get that right ... 🙄
Three years on and still no GUI fix for Windows users ...

The plugins can sound just as good as the hardware? What the hell are you talking about? The hardware had a much more defined low end and the compression of the plugins brought out all the es's of the singer, so with the plugins you would have to add another de-esser after the compressor, while that was totally unnecessary with the hardware.
