"He threw away his bowl, his only possession, realising how materialistic he had become".
Holy crap.

Diogenes saw an archer hopelessly trying to hit a target, he sat next to the said target and said it’s the safest place to be.

Sometimes you just gotta take a long hard look at your wooden bowl and think about what a monster you've become.

He didn't die from holding his breathe, he just realized what a materialist he'd been when he saw a young lad breathing.

The phrase "Get out of my sunlight" is worded in Greek in such a way that it also means "enlighten me". Which makes more sense to me as being said as an irony to Alexander the Great, making him understand that his needs were spiritual and not materialistic, making even a great king powerless.

Diogones: “I was searching for the bones of your father but could not distinguish them from the bones of slaves”
Alexander: 👁👄👁

What a badass, He literally owned nothing and was the closest to the human equivalent of dirt, yet he rejected favors from Alexander the great, only to insult his father. He completely roasted Plato and mocked everyone freaking out when their village was being invaded. He was a smart philosopher, maybe even one of the smartest, yet he lived inside of an empty wine jar and enjoyed every second of his unpleasant lifestyle. What a dude.

Everyone knows that if the words "savage" and "philosopher" are in the same sentence, you know who it is

I love it how he intentionally does or say things that sound or look crazy at first, then waits for someone to ask him the meaning of his actions, and when asked he explains the first seemingly crazy thing and suddenly it makes sense. I think this is a very efficient way to make other people understand your view point. If you just go strait to the point and just say your philosophy, its easily forgettable and unrelatable and your not easily convienced, these things make you think" i dont want to understand your view of the world, i already have my own". But if you intrigue them, make them wonder "what the hell is that guy thinking?? I gotta know!", it sends a strong message.

apparently this exchange also happened:
Plato was discoursing on his theory of ideas and, pointing to the cups on the table before him, said while there are many cups in the world, there is only one 'idea' of a cup, and this cupness precedes the existence of all particular cups.
"I can see the cup on the table, " interrupted Diogenes, "but I can't see the 'cupness'".
"That's because you have the eyes to see the cup, " said Plato, "but", tapping his head with his forefinger, "you don't have the intellect with which to comprehend 'cupness'."
Diogenes walked up to the table, examined a cup and, looking inside, asked, "Is it empty?"
Plato nodded.
"Where is the 'emptiness' which precedes this empty cup?" asked Diogenes.
Plato allowed himself a few moments to collect his thoughts, but Diogenes reached over and, tapping Plato's head with his finger, said "I think you will find here is the 'emptiness'."

He has gone through the highest form of individuation in my opinion. Absolutely authentic to the bone.
