The German government is tightening security and asylum laws after last week's deadly stabbing at a festival in Solingen, west Germany. Three people were killed and eight more wounded. The suspect is an asylum seeker from Syria whom the government failed to deport.
The attack is now fueling a debate in Germany over its immigration policies. The opposition CDU is calling it a national emergency. While the far-right Alternative for Germany party is looking to capitalize on the national debate to consolidate its position ahead of state elections taking place this weekend.

*_"Ban of knives at festivals and some public transport"_*

Call me crazy but I don't think a person with lethal intent is gonna abide by that rule 🤷‍♂

Looks like Hungary and Poland were 100% correct.

Germany needs to learn from Denmark, Hungary and Poland regarding migration. These countries are managing it correctly.

What else do you expect when you let a bunch of people into your country without having any idea about who they are or whether or not they have a criminal record

My mom is a German citizen and my dad is a citizen of a country that requires a visa to enter Germany. The local embassy has put up a sign at the entrance saying “The fact that you’re a German citizen does not guarantee that your spouse will get a visa”. They’ve been married for 36 years and my dad has never been able to become German because they’d need to live 6 years in Germany to do so, and it has never been in their life plans to move there due to my dads occupation.

So, the spouses of actual German citizens are treated like this - yet everyone else can freely get into Germany by claiming asylum and still staying and disappearing from authorities even if rejected.

Makes total sense.

Germany woke up ? About 10 years too late. Maybe don’t go calling everyone racist for pointing this out and raising the alarm. I’m sure the government will just forget about it again in a few weeks until the next one.

The fact that deporting an Afhani IS terrorist back to Afghanistan is against European law is just sick.

Remember when Germany, France, Belgium and Sweden were model countries in terms of safety? I wonder why that has changed only after years of accepting immigrants from countries with questionnable cultural values. Ain't that a mystery?

I'm getting sick of these "intellectuals" claiming there is no simple solution. There literally is. The problem is that the country just has to WILL to fulfil it

As a foreigner working here in Germany, I would say that Germany is the most generous country based on my experiences.. But their generosity is not being managed well to the point of adopting these evil immigrants to ruin the country... Maybe Germany should focus on hiring skilled workers from 3rd world countries instead of the other way around..

One more thing. Can somebody explain to me why rejected asylum seekers (fraudsters, criminals) get benefits in the first place? I have been working my whole life. Still working full throttle with 67 now in Canada. I never got any "benefits" in my lifetime and I don't want any!

Benefits for rejected asylum seekers. Why? Dumb ways to die.

How many women were sexually assaulted on New Year’s Eve in Cologne? 🤬 Nobody has a right to live in somebody’s country or home.

You guys don’t want to deport extremists back to their countries coz you worry for their safety 😂!!! Firstly, please care and protect the lives of your innocent citizens, that your duty…

DW, dont generalize to the term migration. Identify the specific type of migration.

I thought it was racist to question immigration?

For those who keep saying that in the past the Germans and the Japanese were just as bad or even worse: yes, and we dealt with them. And hundreds of years ago it was the British, the French, the Spanish and the Portuguese; and before them it was the Swedish; and before them the Romans. So what's your point? Maybe in 100 years from now it will be the Canadians or the Finnish, who knows? We don't live in the past or in the future; we live in present, and right now Islam is the greatest threat to world peace, even if it isn't the only one. And we need to deal with it in the same way we have dealt with other threats thoroughout history.

Oh no! We are not doing diversity and inclusion anymore? We must show respect to Afghan Taliban culture to be truly anti-racist, isn't it? 😅
