Oh my goodness, that is a beautiful quilt top! For $5!!! I just bought a beautiful "Grandmother's Flower Garden" vintage quilt at a thrift store. I paid more for it than any other quilt, but it is in beautiful condition, hand sewn and quilted. (And I am just a beginning quilter, at age 68!)

Oh my heavens what an absolutely GORGEOUS quilt....you were blessed for sure!! I really loved your quilting tour of this beautiful quilt top and thank you so much for teaching us all these important lessons. I actually have an old leaflet with this pattern and I have been wanting to try making one! So many tiny squares. I do agree with you that squares make a stunning quilt and should not be overlooked in terms of design. Thanks again!

I hope that you will show us the quilt once you have finished it. I agree that it needs new border fabric.
I have a flimsy made of squares from mostly scrap fabric. The back of the quilt - the after-quilt according to Karen Brown - was completed with strips of scrap fabric. I ordered some batting for this quilt and another one but it us on backorder.

Oh my goodness, what a fantastic find, $5 would be roughly £3.50 here. I adore pointed square and diamond quilts and have long been thinking about attempting this. I made a pointed square curtain for my Granddaughters play house and was getting confused lol, the 4 square 🤔 I will have to look again at the quilt top, it's super so I don't mind mulling over it for a while to see if that would be easier for me. Thanks for sharing, wold love to see how you finish this and great advice about measuring 💖

Kris, I like how you isolate blocks for us. Nancy Zieman was one of the few instructors who did this.

Wow! $5! It’s beautiful and it’s a fun easy design but wow did they cut carefully!

Reminds me of a quilt that I made with over 900 HST's-when using small units they become like pixels and you can create just about anything with them! So cool!

Love this top, and for $5, they look like feedsack prints.

Just watched this again, because I've just made a trip around the world, and its a great block. Would love to see an update if you have done any work on it - it was such a bargain!!

Beautiful quilt! I agree that it would be fun to just work with squares. I'd probably make 9-patches and keep my chart handy for color placement! Important lesson about borders. Thanks for sharing!

Beautiful top I've been wanting to try this and have some older books with this pattern in them just love the look of these simple blocks set together in such a spectacular way!!

Another beautiful quilt top! I would definitely remove that border and replace with a stable fabric. I would guess someone added that border years later and did not "know" what they were doing. Great find for only $5!

Also, could that border been put on later by someone else? Such care was taken in piecing the blocks and the border looks like it was just slapped on.
