CeeDee Lamb contract latest: The Cowboys still have not paid CeeDee Lamb and the drama on the lack of a deal is very high after the weekend drama between Lamb and Owner Jerry Jones. Jerry has since back-tracked, a little bit on the Lamb contract: "Now I understand completely the angst that's happening when you're anxious about and someone says anything about whether you're missed or not. Well, CeeDee, you're missed, OK? But you're not missed out here competing and it doesn't put any pressure any place on us."

In more Cowboys news, Adam Schefter reports that this deal is going to get done … it’s just a matter of when. “It's hard to imagine that the Cowboys won't figure out a way to get this deal done for CeeDee Lamb… I don't know when they're gonna get it done but I expect him to be there for the Cowboys regular season opener.”

The Cowboys should not have caved to Elliot back when he held out in Mexico. The Cowboys should not have caved to Prescott during his previous salary negotiations. The Cowboys should not have caved to Zack Martin last year. I'm glad that they let Tyron Smith, Tony Pollard, and Tyler Biadasz walk. I wouldn't not pay Prescott even $55 million a year and certainly wouldn't consider $60 million. At most, I'd pay him $50 million, and even that would not be guaranteed. I wouldn't pay Micah Parsons at the top of his position at this point. He's too much of a linebacker to edge 'tweener and gets too fatigued towards the end of the year. The Cowboys need to establish themselves as a team that doesn't cave to the players and agents. On the other hand, I don't see the Cee Dee Lamb contract as the best place to take that stand. I think that all players are paid far too much. Part of why I don't watch NFL outside of the Cowboys games and am even willing to miss a Cowboys game sometimes is that the whole pay scale for the league is too high. Even so, I don't have a problem putting Cee Dee Lamb in the top two or three wide receiver pay category. I'm not sure what guaranteed money he wants, but I don't see where that money should be a huge problem.

One lesson is that they should never insist on giving a receiver the 88 number if they are going to pick him for taking this stand. Coming out of college, he wanted another number even though he knew the history of 88 in the Cowboys organization. They should have let him have that number. After not letting him have that number, they shouldn't choose him for proving that they can be tough. Maybe this rationale sounds stupid. I'll admit that this rationale is driven in large part by feelings and not be pure math.
