The “rock” is real. It is from southern Utah and known as a septarian nodule. It has been cut and polished. This is a really pretty specimen.

The geode you should have gotten. It is real, possibly someone decided to cover it with felt to use as a bookend. It was a septarian some people call them dragon eggs.
Septarian or septarian nodules are concretions containing cracks and cavities filled in with minerals such as calcite (yellow) and aragonite (brown). That one was of a size and quality of the calcite that you could have at least quadrupled your money.
