Macbooks need a setting to limit charging to 80%, the same as iPhone. Optimised charging never works when it needs to.

Use aldente battery charge limite.. My macbook air m1 is still at 97% battery health using it for 3 yrs.. it is always plugged in & turned on 24/7.. the app keeps my laptop cool & save the battery.. it bypass the battery & pull almost no consumption to my charger

my report: I've been charging from 10% to 90. Using low power mode all the time. I've had the laptop (macbook air m2 15in 24gb ram) for almost 1 year. 95 cycles on the battery. The capacity is currently 97%

I have 100 percent battery health still on my 16 in m1 max macbook pro 2021 I got in April of 2022, so almost 2 years. The battery has about 40 cycles and the machine stayed at 80 percent the majority of the time plugged in and cool.

So is It ok to keep it plugged in all the time at office and even when leaving office? Should optimised battery be turned on?

I leave my macbook air M1 202 always to the charger.
I let the battery discharge of its own, it takes a looong time for it to discharge from 80% to 50%.
Then i charge the battery to 80% and tell mac not to use battery but wallcharger. As i have it in the same places all the time that is the best opyion.
It keeps your batterycycles down to a minimun.
I am no expert, this is just how i, after reading 40 pages watched 30 youtubes came to.
There you go.
My mac is from 2020 and have done 47 cycles so far, batteryhealth 91%.

I use my 2021 MacBook Pro 14” on battery at university, and on charge the rest of the time when I dock it to my monitors at home. I limit the charge to 80% charge most of the time and it’s still at 100% health after almost 2 years and 90 cycles

If I took that charger on board an aircraft in Australia, I'm sure I'd be escorted off by the police thinking it's a bomb 🤣

My 1.5 years old MacBook Air M1 used with extended usb-c monitor.
97% capacity and 72 cycles and 89% capacity according Coconutbattery.
I used AlDente with 70-80% limit. During all time capacity was 100% but I lost 4% for last week light work on battery. I think that now the capacity will drop very rapidly, maybe the battery needs calibration.

In my new MacBook Pro M1 16 I will try to charge battery only with 20W brick without AlDente.

Me and my friend had a same version of Macbooks, exact same models, M1 from 2020. He always use it in a mixed mode, plugged and unplugged. I have seen his mac going low battery most of times. Mine was always on charger and unplugged rarely. I had lesser cycles, but my health was considerbly lower than his mac. So keeping mac plugged in to reduce cycle count doesnt always mean healthy. Another thing to watch out for is the heating. Avoid heating your batteries above 35 degreee celsius at any cost.

My Macbook Pro M1 Pro 14' is 90% after 450 cycles. Heavy usage. Only full brightness when plugged in. Never let it discharge bellow 20% and charge habits are 30% - 100%, I guess that's why I'm keeping a good ratio between battery percentage and cycles. Apple says after 1000 cycles battery will get on that 80% so I'm doing a good job 😅 Using Coconut Battery App sometimes as well...
Oh, and my Iphone 13 mini is 86% after 700 cycles, also Heavy usage 😅

The thing is you've only used 50 cycles in an entire year. My Mac gives 1.5 days battery backup for development & moderate uses so I've to recharge it in every 2 days. That means I would reach 180-200 cycles a year. And all by means I would lose >20% battery health. So the conclusion is it's up our use cases.

PS: I also follow 20%-80% charge cycles rules most of the time if I'm not travelling and also use Aldante to stop charging my Mac at 70% when using an external monitor.

I have never had issues with running my battery down to 5% and then charging. all this using 50% and then charging back is actually harder on the battery from my experience.
