Looking at the date this performance aired, it makes my hair stand on end to see that it was just days after the first five cases of atypical pneumonia were detected in five men in Los Angeles... which, by the end of that decade, would become known as the AIDS pandemic. The 1980s seemed like a promising decade, and suddenly, major health and economic crises appeared.

Many great dancers, producers, actors and actresses, and musical writers died of AIDS-related complications in the 1980s. God bless them.

She was born for this. You can tell performing comes very natural to her...the way she effortlessly hits those notes, her expressions. Her eyes even flash with the music. I used to think she was a diva, but clearly she’s earned the title.

she has publicly stated Evita was not fun and commented to ALW that he hated female singers with what he composed and expected her to sing. This song borders on unsingable but of course she sang it amazingly night after night. Incredible

It's not the skill that stands out but how she effortlessly she sings it and makes it look easy. Her breathing and support technique is insane- doesn't sound like she pauses anywhere or falters with the tone. Love the Glee cover as well.

She's absolutely fantastic. I think her low notes may even be more impressive than her high notes.

Love Patti's portrayal... very NY. I saw her as a child to see Evita. Loved it

I read in her book, "Memoir, " that she flew to NY to do this at the Tony's, when to the after party, then flew back to continue her engagement for performing Evita in Sydney all in 24 hours. She is an incredible, incredible person.
