Just because cookies are homemade doesn't mean they're cheap. You still have to pay for the ingredients to make the cookies. My mother makes fruitcake cookies every year and the pecans she puts in them are not cheap. She wouldn't even let me take any to my Christmas party because she said they were too expensive. I don't know how much they were, but I bet they cost more than those $10 "gourmet" cookies Karen brought.
