While many perceive Starburst as a federation engine, our primary focus lies in enabling open data lakehouse capabilities, particularly when addressing Apache Iceberg. In fact, at Starburst, we're so excited by the combination of data lakehouses and Apache Iceberg, that we call this particular data architecture the data Icehouse. This approach provides the very best combination of flexibility and cost effectiveness like a data lake, but also the features, functionality and performance expected from a data warehouse.

To help with this, we leverage our strength with the open data lakehouse, alongside our ability to connect and federate to many different data sources using over 50 different connectors. Primary among this is our Great Lakes connector, designed to support a myriad of data lake and data lakehouse variations, including Hadoop, Hive, S3, Azure Data Lake, and more.
