Judo Forward Roll: Ukemi Basics

First video of many in our Ukemi Basics series. This is the forward roll. There are many like it but this one is mine.

You want to roll straight over without touching your head to the floor. In the video you'll get tips on how to do this. Remember you can set the speed on YouTube, so feel free to watch at ½ or ¼ speed if you want.

Usually the head shouldn't touch the floor, as far as I'm concerned you would normally tug your head more towards the side and roll over the shoulder because in Judo we only have shoulder rolls so you don't hurt your head or neck.

Another thing is that usually in Judo we would have one leg in front of the other and do both sides of this ukemi seperately for exactly that reason,
in case you fall with either one leg or the other in front, because that determines the shoulder you roll over

But feel free to correct me

I can’t kick myself over, I just fall to the side no matter how hard I try to kick…
