In America, they are called flip-flops. Sandals are thicker. In Mexican culture, they are thrown by moms at the kids who misbehave. Moms don't miss the majority of the time

When I was a kid we called them thongs. When that word became synonymous with women's underwear, which I call slingshots, I now call them flip-flops or sandals.

In Canada they are now mainly called flip flops but used to be called thongs (I think we got it from the old British term for them) but that was before thongs became a term for a certain type of underwear.

AS A PUERTO RICAN WE CALL THEM CHANCLAS, CHANCLETAS OR SANDALIAS. AND IN THE UNITED STATES WE CALL THEM SANDALS, SLIPPERS AND FLIP FLOPS. AND FOR THE THONGS ITS LIKE A G STRING FOR THE BIG TOE.🤣🤣🤣I LOVE YOUR ACCENT.❤🌹😘

As a Kiwi the only correct answer is Jandals, which would be obvious as this also happens to be the New Zealand term for this type of footware. This caught me off gaurd, as I've only known Australians to call these 'Thongs'.
