I have been stuck on this problem for a while now. I understand that you want to put the kJ in the numerator since that is what you are converting it to and the J in the denominator to cancel it out. But where do you put the 10^3 and the 1 each time? At first I thought you put the 10^3 in the opposite of the place of the metric you are converting but sometimes it is incorrect and that time I WAS supposed to put it in the same spot. How do you know if it should be in the numerator or denominator each time? Because it seems it doesn't matter even depending on where the metric you are trying to change is located.
