Delonghi Magnifica Start: Fully Automatic Coffee Machine - Quick Review and Test

In this video, I show you my new Delonghi Magnifica Start, which is essentially the successor to the immensely popular Delonghi Magnifica Evo. We do a quick review and test, making an espresso, coffee crema, and cappuccino. The Magnifica Start has the advantage of no longer including the milk carafe sensor, to make things easier. Also, the interface is now on the front of the machine, rather than the top. But the drink performance is exactly the same as the Magnifica Evo.

In addition, I show you how to program the volumetric dosing this machine offers, for both a coffee crema, and latte macchiato. I hope this video helps you guys get a brief introduction to this economical machine.

Trying to figure out what the difference between the START and the EVO is, they seem identical minus some asthetic differences... 
the EVO has just two buttons more, an 'iced coffee' button and the 'My Latte' button. EVO owners know we can use the my latte button and the bypass setting to get a cup of frothed milk for hot cocoa, so without that button you might have to waste a puck to get the same from teh START, but Delonghi on their website show it capable of making an entire cup of foam by itself (in their marketing shots) so I'm confused. The iced drink setting on the EVO is basically the 'coffee' button, i don't know what it actually does differently, but it doesn't matter because you can't get any cup bigger than a mug under it.

Hi Tom, off subject, but could you potentially review the new Ninja Luxe espresso machine? The device seems at least to be very interesting in regards to all it's trying to achieve, and at a price that's lower than pretty much all its mainstream rivals. PID, inbuilt scale, auto frothing etc.

Hi Tom! I’ve been watching your reviews and it’s helped me make a decision on which machine to buy. I ended up getting this one the Magnifica Start to make milk drinks. I wanted to get the Evo but it was sold out during Black Friday deals. My machine arrives tomorrow and I’m so excited. My only concern - is the Start comparable to Evo? I do not want to feel like I settled by getting the Start - I saw a comment here or there about it’s build not being as great as the Evo.

Delonghi sent me this as a replacement for my True Brew, which I loved. I can’t get a good cup of coffee out of this machine. I’ve tried 3 different brands of beans and it doesn’t matter because no matter what I put in, it all comes out of this machine quite flavorless. Any recommendations??

I don't understand why these companies have yet to make a fully automatic machine that has the kind of automatic frothing you get on the barista touch impress. I find it a lot more convenient placing a jug of milk on a temp sensor and giving it a quick rinse than dealing with a large container of milk that has to be thoroughly cleaned.

What is the maximum amount of coffe that you can let thw machine to pour into Machiatto milk?
Basically to make a coffe drink with light milk foam, just stop Machiatto milk in little time and fill cup with coffe.

Hi Tom, your videos have got me into manual Espressos. Got a Dedica, got a K6, got normcore accessories. What I'm struggling with now is how to clean up the basket/grounds after the shot... any video I can refer to for that haha
