Famous bald eagle 'Rita' critically injured

One of the avian stars of Zoo Miami’s Eagle Cam was in critical condition Monday after she was found with a severely broken right wing.

American Eagles are so majestic, so stunning. They are an important part of our ecosystem and our hearts. It’s impossible not to get attached to them, or any animal for that matter. My prayers are with Rita, May she receive a Christmas miracle and fly again. I pray for the staff, who works so hard so protect our Eagles, and has a special bond with them. We love you Rita. 🇺🇸❤️🤍💙

Have to protect these beautiful species, endangered species list, revived, not careful back on the endangered species list or worse on the brink of extinction . They are one of the most beautiful creatures in the world . I hope Rita be alright this is very serious. I remember when it was Metro Zoo and still find myself calling it that . I hate zoos but when you were a child that did not bother you, excited being in a zoo. I have not been to one in thirty four years and counting and do not EVER intend to return, do not miss it at all . When I went to Zoo Miami formerly as said Metro Zoo twice when on a beautiful elephant ride on a two year old called Emily, what a sweetheart . Even managed not to faint from heat stroke this was the Summer of 86 and kissed her trunk . I hope whatever happened she was well looked after and lived out her days peacefully and calmly .

Thankfully it was the smaller bone in the wing and not the largest one. Maggots are good because they keep infection down because they eat the dead tissue that can cause gangrene. I hear her surgery went well and she’s on the mend, but I just hope Ron will wait for her to heal and not take another mate. Too bad someone can’t call him and let him know his wife is alive and doing well. Could be trouble at the nest if Rita returns and Ron has another mate. Get well soon Rita! 🙏♥️🦅🌷

We need to do everything we can to try and save these birds. They’re amazing try watching many of the YouTube Eagles nest you will see how intelligent they are. And most of all they’re The American Bald Eagle!❤️❤️
