At what point in time should we think about applying this practice? How long should we allow ourselves to naturally grieve before trying this?

The pain is making me physically sick. My dog died four days ago. Unbearable strong pain. No one can replace her.

Don't you ever let someone minimize your pain. A pet is a family member. It's ok to cry and feel pain. Death is natural, you gave your pet a great life and that's all you can do.

I just lost my dog yesterday. My heart aches in pain I miss him so so much. I sleep with his collar. I cry nonstop. He was my best friend I needed him so much more than he needed me. We did everything together .

I have a theory... I feel like the reason why losing a pet is SO hard is because it's (somewhat) similar to losing a child. There's a reason we call them "furbabies". Unlike losing a relative (like an uncle or cousin, I mean) who are bound to us by blood, a pet is bound to us by an extremely strong parent-child connection. They say one of the worst things to experience is burying your child, and that no parent should ever bury their baby. Although they are not connected to us by blood, they, in a way, are our foster babies. And that's one reason why losing a pet is so gut-wrenchingly heartbreaking.

I just lost my dog. I can't imagine a life without him...my heart feels ripped out of my chest...its like I can't breathe. 2 years later, I still can't bear to look at his pictures, I still cry thinking about him. It gets better, but the pain of loss and the void he left behind, I don't think it will ever go away! To everyone who has lost their furry child, I hope u can somehow, somewhere find the strength to endure the pain! even today, I cannot look at another Labrador retriever, or pet one ...I just walk away! Cause the sight of one opens up the wounds !

It's so hard because it's pure unconditional love we received from our animal ❤️

I feel like it's way easier to lose a relative than a pet.

When you lose a family member it usually results in collective grief, with many people grieving at the same time, but when it's a pet it's often a very personal and lonely grieving process. That's my experience anyway. My Father died and it was terrible, but my grief subsided over a short time, but when my dog passed at aged 15, the grief was just so powerful I couldn't shake it and it's because I was grieving alone.

I lost my beautiful dog today after 14 years. I'm 18, we got him when I was 4 so he's been a huge part of my childhood and memories of growing up. I'm heart broken. He was so beautiful. I hope he's happy up there x
