I spent my new year's eve in Thessaloniki. The best new year the wife and I ever had! We reserved a table at one of the cafes that are at the end of the Aristotle square, right on the water, and what do you know, a few tables down there were friends from Chicago. Talk about a small world.
I know you're going to ask if i went to any PAOK games and the answer is hell yea.

Actually, Aristotle born in Στάγειρα (prn Stáyira) in Halkidiki, as Thessaloniki didn't even exist at this time. They built it a few decades later in early 3rd century BC. Also, yiros (not giros) in Thessaloniki is somewhat different to the rest of the Greece, as it has its own "trademark" and is the biggest you could ever find!

I love Thessaloniki as I was a student there and I visit it when I have time. I think it's a mistake to visit it during July or August, as the temperatures are really high or you have to spend midday in your home with a/c and get out after sunset! 😛

Ketchup and mustard is a Thessaloniki thing, you have to specifically ask for tzatziki for some reason. Also, gyros in Greece is made with pork or chicken, lamb gyros is not a thing.

Totally fair. We were a bit surprised too but it’s definitely a regional thing. Athens was more of the traditional type you’d expect.
