THE GIRL tells the story of iconic director Alfred Hitchcock's obsessive relationship with his leading lady, Tippi Hedren, during the making of 'The Birds' and 'Marnie.'...Hitchcock (played here by Toby Jones) molded Tippi Hedren (Sienna Miller) as his latest icy blonde starlet, the latest "Hitchcock blonde" to follow actresses such as Grace Kelly, Eva Marie Saint, Janet Leigh, and Kim Novak.

In the years that followed her films with Hitchcock, Hedren described a tense, difficult working relationship, and this film is based in part on her recollection...[The film] describes in brief how Hitch selected Hedren to star in the movie, after which he developed a sexual/romantic obsession with her. We see the director's wife Alma Reville (Imelda Staunton) and the making of the technically demanding film, and there is a heavy, ominous air throughout.

Miller looks more like Kim Novak in this, nothing about her suggests Tippi Hedren. I like Toby Jones but he looks nowt like Hitchcock either, who was much older than the make up suggests.

Wow, in 2018, at AGE 88, Tippi Hedren became the new face of Gucci's timepieces and jewelry and starred as a mysterious fortune teller in the brand's commercial ad, The Fortune Teller. And I didn't know before that she's the mother of Melanie Griffith and the grandmother of Dakota Johnson.

I love Tippi <3 and Sienna as well. Everybody did a great job, but Sienna rather used the same voice she used for the role as Edie Sedgwick than Tippi's voice, but anyway it still is great and a very interesting topic as well behind the scenes of an hitchcock movie.

though promising in every other way, this movie suffers so hard from sienna millers lackluster performance. she brings nothing unique to the screen that would explain hitchcock's obsession with her.
watch some of tippi hedren's screen tests and you'll totally understand what actually fascinated him about her in real life.

This film seems ahead of its time - it wouldn’t have been so pillaged a few years later post-metoo. The parallels between Hitchcock & Weinstein are fascinating - even the obsession with icy blondes (hello Gwyneth Paltrow)

Toby Jones is the best actor of his generation. His impersonation of a moody, sinister, obsessed Hitchcock is wonderful. Sienna Miller beams with sweetness and charm, but she is too good an actress for her part. If Tippi Hedren had been half the actress Miller is she wouldn't have needed to undergo an ordeal in order to have a career. 6.5/10

Pertinent for now, they should re-release it doesn't look very good, shame, Sienna's usually great, wrong part for her, I think.
