Irelia as a child was fascinated by the beauty of human movement, specifically dancing. She learned traditional dances from her grandmother. Though she doubted their mystical connection to the Spirit of Ionia, Irelia still loved to dance. Irelia wanted to master the art and traveled to the Placidium of Navori to study with Ionia’s most respected performers.After hearing rumors of foreign invaders seen off the coast Irelia returned to her village only to find Noxians marching unarmed people through the streets. Noxian Admiral Duqal (pronunciation: doo-cal) took Irelia’s family home to have his fleet officers rest. While there Irelia also found out that her family spoke up, but now rested in unmarked graves. Soon enough Duqal ordered his men to start looting the house and they began to haul valuables out of Irelia’s family house. One of these valuables was her family crest shaped from metal. Irelia took the crest back and Duqal threw her to the ground and ordered his men to shatter the crest to pieces and to dig a grave for her. As the Noxians surrounded her, Irelia looked toward the shattered pieces of the crest and from within her soul, a rhythm began to beat. The shards of began to move on their own and Irelia felt the joy of the dances again. With a single sweep of her arm she cut through two Noxians. As Duqal and his men were in shock of what just happened, Irelia ran into the woods with the shards of her family crest. In the woods she mourned her family but also realized that the dances her grandmother taught her were more than that, “they were a powerful expression of something far greater.” The Noxians continued to fight against the peace of Ionia and rumors have surfaced that even the religious leader Karma began to fight against them with powerful magic even though her followers withdrew to the Lasting Altar because they would not accept this violence. The Noxians would not go unchallenged however, a resistance formed and Irelia joined. She eventually found herself at the Placidium once again, although this time it would not be on peaceful terms. The Noxians knew what the Placidium meant to the Ionians and a general by the name of Jericho Swain captured the Placidium and took defenders hostage hoping to draw out and decimate reinforcements to further weaken the Ionians. Soon Irelia freed herself from her bonds and “unleashed the full power of the ancient blade dance.” Many of Swain’s veterans fell as Irelia cut her way toward the general until even the great Jericho Swain was wounded by Irelia. This victory against the Noxians made everyone in Ionia know Irelia’s name whether in spite of her or in reverence. For her victory at the Great Stand at Navori or Battle of The Placidium as it was now called she was named leader of the Ionian resistance against the Noxians. For almost three years she led the resistance into battle until a victory at Dalu Bay where Irelia confronted Admiral Duqal once again and killed him. Although the war has ended in the Ionian’s favor Ionia has changed, factions have formed who fight against each other. The First Lands have been divided and though many look to Irelia for answers she doesn’t want the power so many others would welcome. “At heart, she still yearns only to dance alone.”

Irelia was named the leader of the resistance and fought for almost three years until a battle at Dalu Bay where Irelia killed the same admiral that ordered the looting of her family home. Although the war has ended in the Ionian’s favor Ionia has changed, factions have formed who fight against each other.
