What Terry accomplished by himself, and the work he did is absolutely amazing! his own compiler, his own operating system, his own programming language, his own applications, his own OpenGL!!, etc.etc..etc..

Terry always said "I'm the smartest programmer that ever lived" and usually when people say it it's not true. But not terry. Terry spoke the truth.

Would have loved for Terry to see people actually appreciate his os

I'm glad that you chose Temple for AOC. Even happier that you express respect for Terry, and show what he got right. In a previous stream you mentioned that if the UI was just a bit better, his os would be taken seriously; I agree

Terry wasn't called programmer with divine intellect for nothing...

When the simplicity and elegance hits you, and after the joy and excitement you suddenly feel sad at his passing.

We each have a little bit of Terry in us.

Really makes you wonder what he could have gotten up to if he never had a breakdown, behind TempleOS’s primitive interface lies a lot of impressive simplicity. Really makes me wish more people would study it to see what we could learn from Terry.

This video proves that Terry is the smartest programmer who has ever lived.
God bless him.

RIP Terry. He was a person who encouraged me to learn programming back then.

One of the most *interesting* and *unique* series of not just _"Advent of Code"_ but coding in general. TempleOS is such an one of a kind OS and your workflow really brings it up ...

I honestly feel so bad for Terry, its crazy how even the smartest people can be consumed by issues confined between their ears. It sort of reminds me of my mom, she might not be violent like he was, or deranged, but shes had multiple strokes and her mental health declined significantly. I wonder how things wouls have been different had he not been diagnosed with schitzofrenia.

Please do more of this, the content on youtube on templeOS is very limited. I absolutely LOVED this video

My next year of Computer science allows me to choose what language I write my final project in. This has only strengthened my case for coding it in Holy C because it seems like a good entry point for C in general

U0 instead of void is also quite brilliant.

I feel like if the community around/with Terry was more like this where people were genuinely having fun with/exploring his OS, rather than all the negative cancer that the internet spammed him with constantly, his mental state would have remained more stable/had less degeneration over time. Who knows if it would have solved it or not? There's a good chance most of the breakdown(s) could have been lesser or not at all if he was able to get treatment along with positive interaction. TBH, I think the only thing that kept him as "sane" as he was throughout the barrage of trolling was him focusing and using his mind on developing TempleOS.

Talking about simplicity for drawing vs modern/current complexities kind of reminds me of 8-bit microcomputers where some would have simple methods to draw on the screen (within BASIC for this example) while others relied entirely on manipulating graphic memory to do any and everything. I started programming with an Apple IIGS (long after it was "current" in the late 90s when I was around 8) and learned so much about how computers worked just by exploring Assembly and eventually C on it.

glowies knew he was too smart so they iced him

Optimized assembly ... yes ... Terry did a bunch of assembly back 8n the day. Plus, I’m sure he picked up stuff from making this OS.

R.I.P Terry, his OS is still a masterpiece.

fun fact: Unreal Engine 5 is actually using software rendering that runs in the GPU to do the magic behind parts of Nanite. we might get back to software rendering in the near future.

Some really forward-thinking ideas in TempleOS. And honestly I feel like some of this stuff could be used in standard operating systems.

The built-in graphics libraries, the shell scripting, even some of the UI stuff is pretty dope and far ahead of what most text-based and minimal interfaces employ.
