China has recorded its highest number of daily Covid cases since the pandemic began, despite stringent measures designed to eliminate the virus.

Several major cities including the capital Beijing and southern trade hub Guangzhou are experiencing outbreaks.

Wednesday saw 31,527 cases recorded compared with an April peak of 28,000.

The latest lockdown measures have been imposed in the city of Zhengzhou, home to the world's largest iPhone factory

South Africa we haven't had a lockdown in over a year. There's hardly anymore covid cases here anymore.

I'm a master's student in China right now. Wednesday night this week, 2 students tested positive, and the next early morning we were all forced down for mass testing on campus. Then, throughout the next two days, I watched as my peers were bussed off campus to quarantine sites (up to 3 hours away by bus). I was told to pack and be ready to be next, but ultimately our dorm has been allowed to quarantine in our own (single person) units. Thankfully, they installed door sensors, so if we open the door without permission, an alarm will sound, and we'll be taken off site and punished. As an American who's fluent in Mandarin, it was certainly the weirdest and most depressing Thanksgiving I've ever experienced 😷😷😷

Before i felt neutral about china and how other say its evil. But after speaking with chinese whos actually living under these conditions i am disgusted how can abuse people like that. They are giving them tickets to go out once a day. Whats the diff between life in china and life in jail? In jail atleast you get free meals and warm bed.

I feel ashamed by how servile us Chinese are toward this absolutely authoritarian government. My grandfather died during one lockdown that way passed the peak of the pandemic (it barely made to the news, basically a panic lockdown), and my mother had to bribe someone officials to attend her father’s funeral. Many companies in my hometown summoned their employees in the midnight just before lockdown, so they can work and live during lockdown in the company which didn’t provide dormitory for the low income about 800 USD per month. There must be something wrong with out culture.
