The birth of a WATERBEAR 1000x magnification!

This is perhaps my most prized footage.

A waterbear hatches from an egg!

The process starts with the mumma waterbear growing the eggs inside - once the eggs are fully grown, the mumma waterbear will shed its skin and lay the eggs inside the skin at the same time.

This shed skin provides extra protection for the eggs as they continue to develop and grow the baby waterbears.

Once the waterbears are big enough, they hatch!

This is very difficult footage to obtain and really is a once-in-a-lifetime thing to witness!

The process happens pretty quickly - about 15 minutes.

I'm not really sure how long waterbears will stay in their eggs before hatching, so this was extremely fortunate timing!

okay but nobody is talking about how cool/advantageous it is that they lay eggs in their own shed skin?? that is awesome

"The world is so cruel and unforgiving for tardigrades."
Also tardigrades: can survive the vacuum of space.

Even in the microscopic world the babies of animals adorably stumble about after they’re just born, like newborn puppies or kittens that are millions if not billions of times bigger than them.
Nice to know some things are universal.

My daughter did a science competition on Tardies. Her teacher said that she wouldn't find any. We checked local and country parks and moss under trees. We found loads of them and different creatures. We videod and photographed them with a phone, looking through the eyepiece of the basic microscope. We used the phone as extra magnification. They like swimming around moss. Moss leaves magnified look magica and featheryl❤❤

80% of the microscopic population just wiped out by atmospheric change by opening lid

Wow! It's hard to believe that only a handful of tardigrades will be born in a lifetime!

I love water bears 🥹 they’re so cute. My favourite microscopic little beings. I wish I could shrink myself to their size and hug them.

Woah! I can't believe you actually caught such a beautiful and fascinating event on camera! It's so surreal to see such tiny creatures living their lives. And to see them be born is even more incredible!

Do the Chaos Amoeba too with that epic first shot! They should be visible, and are the biggest amoeba that is known. I haven’t seen a single photo of one from an eye‘s view, and given you did it with a water bear I think you can do this too! It’s ok if you can’t though, great content.
