I think of this specific section of the quote often, and remember the curiosity I have about the world. The ability I have to be, even when I wish I wasn’t. On the rare days my mind works alongside my body, and I can appreciate the world around me, I nearly weep with the joy that knowledge brings me.

I’m currently reading A Beautifully Foolish Endeavor (I know, so late to the party!) and I feel like a monkey with a penchant for Bowie and Queen would agree this is a necessary purchase.

I've often wondered "why am I not a cup?" Not just "why am I me and not someone else, or even an animal?", but "why am I a sentient being?" Why not a cup, or a rock, or a planet? Is it possible to even be an inanimate object? Why am I (how can I be) a whole collection of living cells? Why am I not just one of my cells? Why not one of the atoms in one of my cells? Why am I many things, rather than one thing? Why am I exactly this many things and not just, like, an eleventh of my brain? Why do I experience the world from a fixed perspective anyway? Why is the universe a first person story, not a third person story?

...So if anyone could answer one of those that would be great, thanks! ❤
