Nikon D4 vs Canon 1DX quick camera review

This is my quick take review on the Nikon D4 vs Canon 1DX full sized, full frame DSLR cameras. If you're looking for a pro body for your photography, these cameras fit the bill for speed, battery life and durability while still giving you the ability to shoot 1080p video.

Personally, I stopped chasing new cameras after I got the 1DX MK1.
Photography is a Skill Thing, Not a Gear Thing. The 1D X is a powerhouse that’ll push you to master the craft instead of relying on the newest features.
Buy this body second-hand, pair it with good glass, and you’ve got the best value-to-performance ratio out there, it’s insanely affordable in today’s used market.
Plenty of seasoned professionals use the 1D X as their go-to tool even today. It’s THAT reliable.

I shot both at an NFL night game when they were introduced. 50% more "in focus" keepers with the canon. Made the switch that night.

Have just purchased a D6 body, decided to keep the older D5 & D4 bodies. Have always been good workhorses for sports photography. Enjoy using the Z7 as well. Cheers, from Aus.

These cameras are such good deals right now. You pay around 1/6 the new price in decent shape.

Great videos Ian. I've been torn over what to replace my D700 with. All roads keep leading to the D4. It's affordable in 2019, £1300 buys a really good body with under 50k clicks. My lenses are all D series or earlier. I want speed and build and low MP, the D850 could be the answer but I'm not interested in the massive pixel count. Z series is interesting but I'd need to upgrade all my lenses too, at least to G series. This video helps a huge amount. Thanks man!

Nice review, thanks, I've got a D3S and a Canon Eos 1D MK4, am looking to get a D4 so this review is really helpful. Agree with your observations about colour science and ergonomics. I'm leaning towards the D4. cheers

I purchased a 1Dx recently from mpb uk, it has some problems so returned it in warranty and got d3s as a replacement. The 1dx runs circles around the Nikon in terms of its intuitive layout and user friendliness... I started with Nikon way back in 2013, only because most price brackets, low/mid level Nikon bodies offered better specs then canon counterparts. But all this time, I've firmly believed that the canons have better button layout. And it's been confirmed by my interaction with a 5d3 (a friend's), a 6d (i own one) and the 1dx experiencei just described...

Nice video! I've Used the D4 its sooo good! even by today's standards. Only thing that really bothers me is that the memory slots arent the same.

On a photography camera, Nikon should have left off the video part. As a pro photographer who worked at 10 Downing st. The video should be left to video cameras and not put on a Photographic camera's.

Not interested in the 1DX due to how much Nikon Glass I have. So the D4 seems to be my next DSLR purchase. I have used the D3 in the past and loved the handling and ergonomics. Can you tell me if the Shooting banks that the D3/D3s had on the D4?
