This is a *brilliant* idea! I've long admired the penmanship of past eras but I didn't think to copy it in so studied and systematic manner. BRILLIANT idea. I want to try this myself. Thank you for sharing this with the world!

I love this idea! Not just practicing your handwriting but also emulating others, especially past writers/historical documents is amazing! Definitely something I need to try! Thank you for sharing, I will definitely give this a go! God bless you!

Good Handwriting was an important part for writing Good Love Letters

I'm reminded of a "Law & Order" episode in which Stephen Colbert portrayed a man who could forge the handwriting of famous people from the past. -- Many years ago when I saw "The Ghost Writer" on "American Playhouse" on public television. In the opening credits of this dramatization of the Philip Roth novel we see the pages of Anne Frank's diary. She had beautiful penmanship. I'd long been imitating old-fashioned penmanship, but when I saw the pages of Anne's diary that was when I came to love the beauty of good handwriting.

I’m gonna try this. I have trouble with certain letters sometimes. I try different forms to see what looks good and more importantly what’s repeatable by me. Haha. This seems like a great way to work that out. Thanks for the tip

im assuming it's like walking in their footprints/ shoes
but for hand writing
you're learning how they must have performed the pendmanship
every time they wrote down on the page
that's actually pretty cool😮😊

One time at the place where I work at a university we sent out a letter about something. They were to be signed by our director, a lot of them, so he wrote his name down on a piece of paper and I forged it for him over and over on the outgoing letters!

I have a Tomoe river paper book (special because it’s hard to get hold of)that I do a similar thing. I also keep a daily journal where I use different fountain pens I own for a paragraph, to rotate and exercise them. These are pens I have currently inked up or are empty but haven’t used for some time.
Personally, it’s very pleasant just to spend some quality time practicing your own calligraphy and other styles.

This is fantastic! I do this all the time but for some ridiculous reason never thought to keep it in its own book!

How did you learn to write this way? Are you familiar with Michael Sulls books? Great channel, thanks for sharing 😊

I use my commonplace book for this. I have fun with the monthly font of inkspiration on Instagram. But I'm much more interested in your sweater....

Where can I find the writing examples you mentioned? I would love to do the same thing, but I'm unsure where to look for the types of examples you refer to

I use a french-ruled Clairefontaine spiral notebook to work on my cursive writing.  I practice copying the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution from a book with regular type. They have many long words with interesting capitalization. Difficult!
