I hope I can see the rainbow will appear after stop pouring with thunder and lightning. It’s so beautiful with that many colors in the sky, the atmosphere will be like a peaceful scene, I will really enjoy😊⛈🌈. Thank you for your useful lesson about the rain! Have a great day!

Thanks for your lesson. Interesting! A long, long time back, a cousin of mine spent some months in the US ( some town in New York state) as an exchange student. I distinctly remember her story that during a rain storm she was only too happy to be able to interject the proverbial "it's raining cats and dogs" expression, which used to be ubiquitous in English learning material back in the day. Well, turns out she was laughed at and informed that it was a dated idiom people didn't really use anymore... Now, thanks to you, I know it's back in fashion, or maybe is a Canadian thing?

OK, we can set together all the descriptions of heavy rain: raininig cats and dogs, downpour, pour, bucket down, torrential rain. There can be also scattered showers describing rain with breaks from time to time :). If the rain catches you, you can be drenched or soaked. After the drizzle you're going to be only damp. By the way in Poland we have now an overcast day :)

Kalai, we're planning to go to a cinema. Could join with us?
I would love to but it's raining cats and dogs. Could I take a rain check? 😄

I agree with Ismet, according to many native speakers this expression is very old-fasiined now and mostly used by ppl of older generations. Surprisingly, it is very popular among English learners. Maybe it is easier to remember than "pouring down" or "raining heavily"? By the way, Mark, why don't you make a video about each type of rain and the ways to describe it? 😋👌

Hi!
Unfortunately, these days, it's not raining cats and dogs or even drizzling in my country. We are experiencing a hard time of drought.
Take care!

Is there an expression in English for when it rains but the sun is still clearly visible? Here some people might say something like "an old man and woman are getting married"
