If the service is subterranean or the waitress is particularly unfriendly, don't be afraid to NOT tip. You are not obliged to. You should also be honest if you don't like the food. This is the only way the host can improve next time or prepare a new meal. Many greetings from Germany.

A warm hello from Germany! I would like to set a few things straight. The prices are a bit higher now. A tomato soup would now cost about €6.50, a rump steak about €28.00, a large beer (0.5l) about €5.00 - €6.00. There are restaurants that offer smaller portions for children and senior citizens. But if there are generally large portions, it is not usual to ask for small portions. But here it is quite legitimate to ask if you can take the rest (meat) with you. It is no problem to have it wrapped up. Tipping is perfectly fine at 5-10%! Many kind regards

Vielen Dank! I have learnt so much from this video (especially with 'die Bedienung' - that was new to me) and I was mostly just revising more of my A1 as I am progressing into A2 after completing my A1 studies (as well as obtaining the Goethe A1 certificate). I have been in 2 Restaurants/Kneipen (so far) in Germany, but next time I believe I will be able to order much better. 😅 I lack self confidence and I am rather shy speaking in German😶 but I hope that goes away with time.
