I think it really depends on what city and neighborhood one is in. I'm in suburban San Diego, and it's absolutely fantastic living here. The city is beautiful, vibrant, full of life, great cultural arts, beaches, parks, restaurants, but yes, we have homeless in some city pockets. It doesn't affect most of us, but we do see it driving in some places. Does that mean*everything* is terrible? Not at all. And those Americans who think California is too liberal haven't been to Germany. But I love Germany too. It's also not perfect but wonderful in different ways
