A biplane is a fascinating piece of aviation history, it is a classic aircraft design featuring two main wings stacked one above the other. The first powered, controlled airplane to achieve flight, the Wright Flyer, utilized a biplane wing arrangement, as did many aircraft during the early years of aviation. While the biplane wing structure provides a structural advantage over a monoplane, it also generates more drag. Advances in structural techniques, improved materials, and the need for higher speeds led to the biplane configuration becoming largely obsolete by the late 1930s. Despite this, biplanes offer several advantages over conventional cantilever monoplane designs, including lighter wing structures, lower wing loading, and smaller wingspans for a given wing area. With these benefits in mind, let's explore some of the most remarkable biplanes in the world.

Thank you.

I owned an open cockpit, single place biplane called a Starduster. It was awesome. It could take 10 Gs, way more than me. I had so much fun flying aerobatics in that plane.

The Fokker Dr 1 designation is actually nothing to do with doctors. It comes from dreidekker the German term for a triplane.

You showed a Beech Staggerwing but ignored it in your story.

I’m disappointed they did not mention the Swordfish, which was instrumental in sinking Bismarck, went on to sink more enemy tonnage than any other allied aircraft, and outlasted its intended successor, the Albacore.

Interesting video with a great selection of single engine biplanes. What a pity that no replicas of four engine biplanes exist. My two favorites are the Handley Page HP 42 airliner and the Short Singapore III flying boat. In a comprehensive review of biplanes they are worth a mention.

The Fokker DR-1 is obviously not a biplane AND you left out the Staggerwing Beechcraft 17, the most beautiful aircraft to ever grace the skies.

Great video - and aircraft! But where's the S.P.A.D.?

The Fokker DR.I is a triplane I suppose that could be construed as having more than one pair of wings.

sorry but thefirst triplane was made by Sopwith. the idea of the3 wings was to reduce the wing chord and the resultant blind spot

About 1950 a plane crashed next door they fixed the problem & towed it to our farm to use our longer field to take off. I think it was a stearman Essex Ma. Stinks We lost the Pic with my brother & sisters. I think a navy flyer came to fly it from our farm.

Great video ' Thank you
Love the planes but war is NOT something to be proud of .

Many are wondering why you left out the Cadillac of the air, the Beechcraft Staggerwing.

Smaller wing span increases the induced drag tremendously at low speed.

The narrator has no idea what he is talking about! He is good at reading but knows nothing about aircraft!

So, if you have three wings you're a doctor - beats being a 'Dr. Fokker' I suppose : )

How can a "doctor" triplane be a biplane? And how can a Stearman, that first flew in 1933, be a trainer for WW1 flyers? And if you start counting the biplanes bigger than the AN2, you really cannot call it "one of the biggest biplanes" ever built. DO YOUR HOMEWORK FIRST.

So many factual errors that it is laughable, don't watch this if you want to learn anything. The guy really wants to study his subject before trying to make any more YT videos.
Also, regarding remarkability - where is the PZL Belphegor? You can't get much more remarkable than that weirdo.

So you show a Beech Staggerwing on the thumbnail for the video, then you don't even show or mention it? FOUL!

This is what happens when you have lazy production values. Not recommended.
