It was very exciting for a few of us in the 70s at high school. The mystery of the letter and number stations, plus the ones making the noise that became a fax dial up code.

A close relation of mine in his later years (about 10 years ago) bought himself some short wave radio gear and put a large ariel in the garden, and spent time listening in to a lot of over the air chatter and distant signals. I did not take notes on the exact equipment, but it looked expensive. It was only after he died that I learned that he was in fact a very senior military signals intelligence officer, when he received a personal commendation at his funeral from the chief of staff for defence. So yes, at least at an unofficial level, some very high level monitoring of the community was going on.

Very happy to have saved all of those paper copies of the ENIGMA newsletters. I lost a load of stuff in a house move in 2019, but I'd already sent them all to the guys at PRIYOM and so they have been preserved, thankfully. Great video as usual - will definitely chat again this year! OUT.

I've been contacted by a few 3 letter agencies. It's mind blowing because you never expect that call/letter. Your heart may begin to beat fast but make sure you verify them. If they get rude with you when you want to verify their identity they probably aren't who they say they are. One of my encounters was extremely time sensitive and the agent was still extremely understanding when I wanted to call him back through a verified number I pulled from the phone book.

Just think Lewis during my early days working for FCO Hanslope park i spent time at gawcott working above the H/F transmitters where the feeders went into twin open wire feeds to the various Ariel's in the Field around the site.
One of those TX units probably was used for the E03 number station before it went to Cyprus.
there was plenty of 'Piccolo (mfsk) transmissions being sent out from Gawcott and Creslow stations.
