To find the reciprocal for a number, like 10, we flip the numerator and denominator. We end up with 1/10 as the reciprocal for 10. We could also convert the reciprocal, 1/10, to a decimal. This would be 0.1.

For whole numbers, (2, 3 …) we can consider these to be divided by one. For example, 10 can be considered to be10/1. This makes it possible to find the reciprocal by flipping the numerator and denominator.

The reciprocal is also called the multiplicative inverse. So we can check to see if we have the correct reciprocal for 10 by multiplying it by its reciprocal. This should be equal to 1.

10 x 1/10 = 10/10 = 1

For mixed fractions, like 1 ½ you can convert these to improper fractions. For example, 1 ½ is the same as 3/2.

Note that the reciprocal of 10 is not equal to 1/10. They are different numbers.
