Turning Baby Rattles from Maple wood - quick woodturning project

A baby rattle can be a pretty quick and simple project - you don't need any real hollowing skills and it can be made with small scraps of wood, some glue, and some rice. It's a pretty straightforward process; the only part that's at all tricky is getting a good fit when you attach the handle to the bulb. Aside from a tiny bit of rough hollowing, the turning is mostly just spindle turning and you can embellish the rattle as much or as little as you like. You could also make a bigger version as maracas and try something other than rice inside to get different sounds.

Still no commentary (yet), but I did include some subtitles with a little extra info about what I'm doing in certain parts. Maybe you'll actually hear me speak in the next one (my first attempt was a disaster, so you won't be seeing that one).

Looks great, what you had used to give a finish? Polish, wax or something else?

Chad, you do nice work, but I would love to hear you comment on what you are, and maybe give us some measurements, so we can give it a try. Thanks for sharing & see you next time

Clever use of the wire woodburner to hide that seam!

I see so many YouTubers with Robust toolrests on non-Robust lathes. I also use them on my Jet lathe, and there are none better. Why doesn’t every lathe maker learn from this and copy the best??

Why use epoxy when you could easily use something less toxic. Nice rattle though
