Just discovered this film last week, and wrote about the Star Trek connections on substack. Great video! Roddenberry def saw this film. Even the design of the Enterprise, and the way it "swooshes" across the screen in the opening credits, is totally the same thing! This sent me down a whole Czech rabbit hole. Just watched "The Ear" last night which totally blew my mind.

We love it! These czech movies are also great: The Man from the First Century (1962), Vrazda ing. Certa (1970), Wolf's Hole (1987), Late August at the Hotel Ozone (1967).

I believe composer Zdeněk Liška had definitely some word (if not major) in the overall sound design of this movie because he was very into synthesizers back then (Btw he's generally considered to be the most talented czech film composer...if only they were producing soundtracks in Czechoslovakia those days, I bet he would now received attention he deserves...)

Some other czech sci-fis worth noting (although I'm not sure if they available in english):
- Akce Bororo (Operation Bororo) - 1972
- Zítra vstanu a opařím se čajem (Tomorrow I'll Wake Up and Scald Myself with Tea) - 1977
- Zabil jsem Einsteina, pánové... (I Killed Einstein, Gentlemen) - 1969

I was om a Chzech new wave roll back in 2021; watched a lot of them then. I've found so many quirky and unique movies there. This one, while not my favorite, was fascinating. Maybe I just watched it at the wrong time (was pretty stressed out, hence struggled to keep focus).

Pitty that we have so little hardcore scifi movies. By the way, I would like to mention Operation Bororo (1972), which I personaly consider as one of the best czech scifi movies. Lately I saw another movie Dark sun (1980). It is remake of movie Krakatit (1948). It is from the same director, but pretty heavyli influenced by ideology. Pleas consider this as recommendation for another interresting czech scifi movies :)

I have this on a hard drive somewhere, but I have not watched it. The sound effects and the robot and the flying saucer shaped spacecraft at first glance seem like they were copied from Forbidden Planet (1956).
I really like Czech New Wave films such as The Fireman’s Ball, Loves of a Blonde and Closely Watched Trains.

I just saw it and enjoyed it. It is a bit slow, but the story was good in the end. I read about it in the 1950's scifi "B" Movies fan Page on facebook. the micro-society aspect was interesting. very mature, I thought. the robot was cool but useless. when they did use it, it was for something any welder could have done easily. lol. funny how they find decadent space travelers from the past, gamblers, lol. their ship must have been spacious enough to have a gym room, piano, etc.

There is a wrong information about the movie that it was behind Iron Curtain and communism, there was no such a thing in Czechoslovakia back in 1963.
