RF Attenuators, Measurement experiments, uses, analysis NARDA, MARCONI RADIAL, MINI CIRCUITS

Early in the video I present the various types of attenuators, from manufacturers Narda, Marconi, Winchiel, Rhode & Schwarz, JFW, Continental Microwave, Suhner, Omni Spectra, MaCom, Greenpar etc, looking at low power right up to high power. Fixed, variable, step attenuators, I then sweep several devices on the Marconi Scalar analyser, followed by setting up a HP Agilent spectrum analyser with an offset taking into account an external attenuators to display incident RF Power from a transmitter safely. We also look at the role of bias tees & RF Power amplifiers, T pad & Pi attenuators construction, a warning about beryllium oxide dangers in RF components, & loads.

That Arra is as expensive as the narda ones, at least if it is a multioctave 30db one, basically they are Narda too, likely customizations from narda for military. They are as good as narda, I got one of them 6-11ghz and the Narda equivalent 7-18ghz. £2K each.
, I had a Winschel 70db dc-6ghz so have the full range DC-18ghz, the weinschel is £4K with VAT, too which look similar.
Fortunately didn't pay that amounts, and Im beginner, but getting equipment before estart to learn, 4years now collecting and have only very basic knowledge

A basic question. Does a 3dB attenuator mean halving the output power?

Interesting analysis. Regarding the big squared 3db attenuator @ 1:38 (which looks jfw or bird) MFN should stand for Male-Female-N type
