Twitter users vote for Elon Musk to step down as CEO - BBC News

Millions of Twitter users have voted in favour of Elon Musk stepping down from his role as chief executive of the social media platform. 
 
Mr Musk tweeted a poll, asking: “Should I step down as head of Twitter? I will abide by the results of this poll.”
 
More than 17 million people took part, with 57.5% voting “yes” to him stepping down. 
 
The Tesla and SpaceX boss, who is yet to respond to the poll results, has faced heavy criticism since taking over the company.
 
He sacked around half of Twitter’s staff, and was recently condemned by the United Nations and European Union for suspending journalists who cover the platform.

Damn it. I was actually enjoying watching him destroy Twitter bit by bit as a CEO. Useless platform in my view. Buying the company for $44B, a company that hasn’t made profit even once since it was founded some 20 years ago. That is sort of insane and I’ve not seen someone burn money as quick as him. Really fascinating.

Musk had likely already made his mind up to not being the CEO before the poll was published. The difficult task for Musk will be to convince anyone that a different CEO will drastically change anything as Twitter will be seen as very much his company. This will likely also narrow down the list of candidates for the role, because it is nearly impossible having the role of Chief Executive if your decisions can be overturned at the drop of a twitter poll.
