As a German, it makes me proud of how we worked through the whole thing. Like he said, I don't feel guilty but I feel responsible that it never happens again. At this point, Germany has reinvented patriotism for me. We don't need a flag on every corner, on every house to know who or where we are! But in competitions we keep it as high as we can! There is always only a fine line between patriotism and nationalism.

I desperately need him and his wisdom through these next 4 yrs. He was the reason I made it through the first time.

Wow! Trevor explained that so clearly. It happened...make sure it never happens again!! The past is the past, but we all need 2 know of it and feel the emotions. 💕♥️ Namaste

I’ve always said we Americans should follow the example of post war Germany. This is exactly what I was talking about. Not deny.

Well, as a German living in Germany, I wish we would actually learn how to make sure it doesn't happen again... Because, unfortunately, right now it doesn't feel like we're succeeding.

Thank you for this ❤ I am German and this is exactly how it was for me. Also my grandparents told me about their experiences in that terrible time. Thank you for spreading this as a positive way to deal with the past. All the Best from Germany

Yes thats what we do. It is nice of you sir, that you speak about it in your Show. Thx for that. But not only in Berlin, nearly every City in Germany has such Monuments. Herzlichen Dank für Ihre Worte und ein herzlicher Gruß aus Deutschland💚

Yes…this exactly what we want, what we need.
As a Jewish grandmother, I one day hope we can have such teaching and memorials also in East and West Jerusalem. In Tel Aviv and in Gaza. Look at this place, look at what we did, understand how we hurt one another, know that we all have the power to stop doing that and to heal. For healing does not come from a place of denial, accusation and blame. The terrible injuries, pain and death WERE the punishment themselves, we can stop it. Never again gives the space for the suffering to stop and for Peace to flourish.
Thank you, Trevor Noah.

It's THIS humanity that I, as an historian and sociologist recognize is evident around the world, but many U.S. citizens choose to deny. 😢

My generation (born 1974) is probably the last one with parents and grandparents who were born before, during or shortly after WWII. I sat down uncountable times with them, listening to their hard, sad, horrible unbelievably memories and stories about germany or what they experienced in war between 1933 and 1945. Its our absolute responsibility to keep our history in mind and make sure our kids and even grandkids know how to avoid that history repeats itself

Talk about the UK that killed 130 million people and literally does not talk about it in their education system. And this is their body count only in India....not even taking into account Kenya, Carribean and the others.

Beautifully said. Unfortunately, we're not there yet in the US because many of us hang on to old biases and discrimination and fear and hatred. We need to learn from Germany. We can't shed our storied past until we accept it and learn from our mistakes, which are many.

German here. I can only confirm what Trevor is saying. We have monuments and relics to remind us where we came from and never to go back there. It’s taught in school, I even took a field trip to Theresienstadt in the Czech Republic. It’s very humbling and the knowledge of my countries past has made me a better person for the future.

Good luck America. It breaks my heart and scares me to see what is happening there right now

We needed that attitude in the states and now look at us because no one wanted to talk about our past and preventing that kind of inhumane existence again. We're headed somewhere dark and ungodly.

I've been to Germany a few times, the German people have faced up to the past in a way the British never have. I trust the decent majority of Germans. They're good and cultured people. Politicians need to listen to them though. The crimes of 80 years ago do not mean you need to wear sackcloth forever.
