from 2:29 to 3:11 it's one of the best musical experiences i've ever had. it's like a terrence mallick or a tarkovsky movie or a really powerful and glorious epiphany. the world becomes smaller, life is an rich and enormous existence and yet all things become much simpler, and everything is at hand's reach. i've come to love pretty much all of beach house's songs but this particular section, i will carry it to my last day, i'm certain.

One of the best memories of my life, I was meeting my girlfriend on a snowy winter’s night, and she was walking out to me across the street from her house as I was trudging through the snow-buried sidewalk.

I can just remember seeing her coming to meet me under the orange glow of the street lamps with the snow falling all around us, and she looked like an angel, complete with an orange glowing halo above her. I’ll never forget that, because for a moment time went still and I could’ve died then and there and I would’ve been happy

At 3:11 begins the best part, I almost can feel how my feet start to leave the ground slowly, floating, levitating and feeling surrounded by an ethereal peace. Then I can listen to angel's voices singing "there's a place I want to take you...". I keep levitating with my eyes closed, almost crying until I reach the opened doors of heaven at 5:30

it all makes sense... now that i know the meaning behind this song, it's so much more emotional. truly an ethereal experience every time i listen. this is my new favorite song. not only is it a fantastic album opener and an excellent standalone song, but it's a wonderful tribute to two beautiful souls that earth lost. rest in peace, Liz and Rose. ❤

This song is about two girls who were crushed by a derailing train in 2012. They were sitting on a bridge, with their legs hanging over the street below, and shortly before the train arrived one of them posted a picture of it to Twitter with the caption “levitating”. Knowing that context makes it even sadder.
