Great video. I agree with pretty much everything you said. One note I would add though, as you rightly pointed out on the Perseus that the guns are bespoke to the ship and (as far as we have been lead to believe) not going to be able to be swapped out for other guns or types. One thing they did mention is that there is strong likelihood that they will offset that the bespoke nature of the turrets by eventually adding "ammo types" that will further diversify the Perseus' capabilities and usefulness.

I hope to own a Perseus one day! Its a beautiful gunship, the top-side bridge is a chef’s kiss for me and the lower crew requirement makes it even more appealing to me.

Perseus for the win.
Perseus is also META for doing PVE missions all day long. Small crew big guns, lots of mercenary mission options

I really think that the Perseus will need a crew of 5 especially if it is going on a longer op. The 4 & 5 positions are engineer/ loader positions. Keeping those guns firing will mean keeping those magazines full.

Only 2 manned turrets on the perseus. Less than half head count to run a perseus compared to a hammerhead. I expect the perseus to be a solo possible ship when you can hire 2 npcs to man the main turrets. After all the perseus measurements put it at the size of a 600i.

Man it be a totally different game if they had ai crew

I've thought about fleet structure for a long time, especially relevant to me because myself and a couple friends collectively have a sizeable combat fleet centered around a Javelin and that includes at least one Polaris and an Idris. In my eyes, there's a very specific collection of ships that check a particular set of boxes: They are combat ships, they are between 100-150 meters long, and they have S3 and sometimes S4 components. This list, interestingly, consists almost entirely of ships that don't step on each others' toes, making them complementary in a fleet.

The Hammerhead is a fighter screening gunboat.
The Perseus is a large ship brawler gun boat.

These two, collectively, if they manage to balance the game properly, each are capable of protecting a fleet from most sub-capital threats as screening gunboats, and this also makes them decent patrol boats.

The Liberator is a sub-capital carrier style ship. It's probably even better filling an "amphibious assault ship" role to transport a small half-platoon sized combined arms unit to a front and supporting them with its large cargo bay. That said, the recently introduced Ironclad - on paper - does that significantly better than the Liberator does, while the liberator offers better fighter wing transport for a fleet (if we assume it's harder to launch out of an ironclad than it is to launch from a Liberator).

The Nautilus is a minelayer/minesweeper, adding some asymmetric warfare potential to a fleet.
The Carrack isn't really a combat ship but makes a great pathfinder/forward scout.
The Galaxy also isn't really a combat ship, but offers the potential for a small mobile hospital both to ground operations and to a fleet that lacks enough medical bays in its other ships.

I personally really love this range of ships. The combat/combat support large ships are, in my mind, some of the best ships from the point of view of how they fill roles in organized play. A lot of the ships that are smaller compete a lot, especially haulers and fighters, and the bigger capital ships will see VERY little play. Even our Javelin will likely never see a fleet engagement that isn't defensive and will probably act as a sort of mobile company HQ.

I wish perseus had s8 weapons, I feel like s7 is underwhelming for it tbh

Reminder: We'll be getting different ballistic ammo types in the future. Armor piercing, flak, explosive, EMP, etc.

I've been debating whether or not I want the Perseus, and if it would even match my needs as an explorer. If it has such a large quantum tank and can regenerate hydrogen more effectively. The reason I'm considering it for exploration is based on modularity (which I have no clue if it's going to be customizable). If I get it, it's mostly because my Navy background side WANTS it, because I'm pretty sure it's not going to really give me much for exploration. Either way, thank you for an awesome comparison video.

if a hammerhead, perseus and polaris went up against a idris that would be insane to watch

in the Hammerhead, i absolutely love putting the Razor inside. and about the Perseus, me and my squad already have made a crew for ourselves, and i will be the engineer that's because it's what i always do in such games. so i'm actually excited for us to fly Perseus.

I only own two ships a starter and the Perseus can’t wait until it’s in game to serve my org

I picked up a Perseus on the grey market for a good deal because I tend to play with 1-3 other people during the major events. We used a HH to good effect during the XT Overdrive event, but running only one or two turrets you could see the loss in firepower. The HH is one of my favorite ship designs, and if/when we get Blades I would consider running one for that purpose. I was also shocked just how small the Perseus is going to be!

Remember, for the Perseus: "Stationary targets don't react well to fourteen-hundreds."

Perseus has been announced that the Ballistics can fire different ammo types. And also, in 4.0, armour will comes into play, as Ballistics can damage internal ship components, therefore making the Perseus a large to cap ship killer.

I’m looking to buy the ship in game one day. I have the Polaris, my lovely size ten slapper. But the looks have its charm and when npc crew heads out. Allowing a single player to control all the guns, torps and missiles of a ship you fly/command. I drool at the idea

I feel like one or two engineers would be useful for these sub-cap ships especially with engineering coming soon

The fact that the weapons on the Perseus are bespoke is a bit of a deal breaker for me, i'd very much prefer to have energy guns for longer staying power...
