Took my mum watch shopping today, she wanted to purchase a watch for my sister's future husband. She's not familiar with horology, so to her "Rolex" was the only brand she understood as luxury. Went into an AD, branded as "Rolex" - my mum asked the price of the Date Just Fluted Bezel. The AD let out a giggle and her colleagues were snickering at my mum. I told my mum, let's leave this store. Took her to JLC, got a Master Control - they treated us with respect and like actual human beings. Not garbage. This is what will be the downfall of Rolex, their AD's act like they own the brand - have no sense of customer relations. Absolute garbage, a watch with just a date complication and they act like it's a Tourbillon. Hype or no hype, Rolex doesn't control their sales-staff since they don't own any boutiques; they do business through these AD's who act like they're immortals put on this earth to demean people. (Sorry I just had to let this out somewhere, never been so frustrated with such an experience)

Unpopular opinion: I love the helium valve! Talk about “playful”, it gives it a gadgety look. I like the functionality of the Omega better - micro adjust and jumping hour hand. Add in price and availability and Omega is the winner of the two, which is not to knock Rolex as the reigning king of sporty luxury watch brands! Awesome video as always Adrian!

I’d like to see a hands on review of the Vacheron Constantin Overseas Chrono!

I think the Planet Ocean is the best "new" divers watch of the last 20 years. Adrian is right that the Rolex is timeless (not surprising since the design rarely changes) but the Omega also got everything right from the start.
I own both a Deepsea and a PO chronograph and if I had to sell both and just have one diver then the Omega featured in this video is the one I'd go for.

I think you’re unfair in saying that the design of the PO won’t stand the test of time. It’s a design inspired by Omega Seamasters from the 50’s and 60’s. Other than the HE valve it’s a pretty pure design and I believe it will age well.
I love Rolex too, but other than resale value nothing about these two watches can justify one being priced 3 times the other, or even two times. Plus, now that the Seadweller has the cyclops nothing much really differentiates it from a Submariner other than the water resistance specs. From that perspective the PO is more unique imho.

Just to note, regarding to the "History"/Length of time of the design, that even though the Planet Ocean model itself is relatively new, the design is essentially a modern reimagination of the Omega Seamaster 300 165.024, which was introduced in 1962

The statement “getting a Rolex from their ADs is harder that getting an equivalent Omega” is definitely factual. Some of the people that do accomplish this feat, or pay the outrageous premium to get a Rolex, do tend to boast about it. Those are the people that make Rolex unsavory to others that can’t or won’t do anything for a Rolex. In addition, I insure all my Rolex but don’t insure all my Omega watches (because thieves don’t target Omega like they target Rolex).

I think Rolex and Omega when it comes to quality are on equal footing. But the Rolex brand is legendary and that's why people pay the money. I find debating on which one is better pointless. Absolutely love both brands. I have a PO titanium absolutely love it. I have my eyes on a Datejust II and super excited. For me personally I find each brand has a strong offering in different categories. Chronos Speedy all the way Daytona is bland and lacks the history. I know its the hot watch but that's me. Divers PO all the way Sub and Dweller are icons but design wise I think the PO has it with the 3 6 9 explore style layout. You also get a lot variety on the diver side for better or worst. You get a lot of interesting stuff with the different seamasters but Omega lacks that unified design unlike Rolex. Travel, the GMT master 2 is legendary the PO gmt is wonderful but its after thought. Every day wearer the Date just is king staple design. Aqua terra has a wonderful dial but the clasp is unimpressive. I think overall each brand offer a lot and appeals to a lot of different people.

Omega managed to design the PO in a way that feels like it was always in its catalog, for several decades (I think the lyre lugs heavily influence that). I personally feel the PO will age just as well as the SD, and the incorporation of some innovative materials (ZrO2, Liquidmetal, SiO2 co-axial balance) makes it even cooler to me.

I’d like to see your thoughts on a Breitling Avenger 43 on steel bracelet and their rubber strap. The blue dial seems to be the most popular.

If you’re all about status symbol then the Rolex wins… if you plan to go more than 2000 feet below the water surface the Rolex wins…. If you plan to spend a ton of money and not understand that the Rolex is overpriced, then there is the win… omega planet ocean all the way! I don’t need to spend three times the price to have a watch that one second more accurate.

A good watch brand is one that whose watches can be actually enjoyed by its followers

To be fair Omega at one time was the top watch company. Rolex dethroned them. Omega is an older company than Rolex. Today the price paid for a Rolex is starting to get in
the price range of Vacheron Constantin and Patek Philippe. The problem is in the past Rolex was affordable for people to strive for. Rolex is in Orbit but is willing to give you second
best in their Tudor. Rolex will have you remember about Tudor and it will never ever be in competition with second place Tudor. There is no way a steel Summarnier is worth $12, 000.
There will be a crash one day of Rolex and it wont be pretty!

I disagree that the SeaDweller has “earned” timeless design…it is barely different from the Submariner case, which actually earned the title. GMT-Master and Yacht-Master may look timeless too, because they are essentially the same watch case piggy-backing off the successful Submariner design. I also think the concept of timeless is unfair when talking about Rolex, when design has so much less to do with popularity than brand value and market retail. Every Rolex vs Rolex poll seems to reflect wins based entirely upon retail price, not functionality or design.
