Fleetwood Mac - Oh Well Part 1 Reaction

In this video we're listening to Fleetwood Mac. Of course, we know the mid 70's version of this band. But we never ventured further back to hear what they were like without Nicks/Buckingham. This one was even before Christine McVie. By the way, Chris said Robert Green on camera. He meant Peter Green. Anyway, we are really interested to hear what this early version of the band was all about. Enjoy!

One of the best riffs ever written. In 1969 Fleetwood Mac were the top selling singles band in the UK, ahead of The Beatles and The Rolling Stones. Peter Green was a gifted writer and charismatic performer who remains a legend amongst guitar players. His most famous guitar now belongs to Kirk Hamnett of Metallica. Other songs: Man of the World will break your heart, The Green Manalishi... will blow your mind, Need Your Love So Bad is one of the greatest blues songs ever written.

Definitely my favourite song by Fleetwood Mac. The Peter Green era was far better than the latter band. Many other songs from this line-up that are worth hearing.

The ending of the song is actually the transition into Oh Well part 2 (the B side of the single). I still have my original 7" vinyl on the Reprise label from 1969 and I can not see on the label anywhere that it says mono or stereo! My favourite of theirs from this era is the hauntingly beautiful "Man Of The World".

Only rock star that left me star struck. I got over it enough to thank him. He was also an influence on, and mentor to, the incredible Paul Kossoff.

The real shame of it is that Peter Green went the same way as Sid Barrett with his mental health. Peter did continue to play after his departure of Mac, but kind of stayed in the shadows.
He was very vulnerable, and there were those who would take advantage of him, but good people like original (and best) Whitesnake bassist Neil Murray kept an eye out for him as best they could.

Long before Rumors, Lindsey and Stevie, there was Peter Green, Danny Kirwan, Jeremy Spencer, MIck Fleetwood and John McVie. Peter Green founded the group. He enticed Mick and John away from Jon Mayall by promising to name the band after them lol! It's my favourite lineup for the band!!

A the real Fleetwood Mac. Peter Green was THE British guitarist of the 1960s.

This was great, part 1 & 2 together is the best way to listen to this track. This is the Peter Green days of 'Fleetwood Mac' from the late '60s to early '70s. Other tracks from this period which I recommend:
"Albatross",
"Man of The World",
"Green Manalishi (with The Two Prong Crown)",
"Black Magic Woman",
"Need Your Love So Bad",
"If I Loved Another Woman",
"Rattlesnake Shake",
"Love That Burns",
"Stop Messin' Around".
There are many more but these are good ones to continue with.

SO glad you have reacted to the Fleetwood Mac that I grew up with. Peter Green was a fantastic guitarist, but its Danny Kirwan playing lead guitar on this song. And I LOVE Peter Green's voice. Other great FM songs, Green Manalishi, Man Of The World, Black Magic Woman, and the soulful ballad Need Your Love So Bad. To name a few. (and of course, Albatross)

So cool you’re getting into early Fleetwood Mac! For another heavy one by them try “The Green Manalishi.”

There's a really good live video of this where Peter starts laughing, if you want to find it. It's great to see him enjoying himself so much.

One of the best guitarists ever. Unfortunately suffered from mental health issues....after a bad experience with drugs given to him at a party in, I think, Germany....or so I have read.

This was Fleetwood Mac’s best line up and sound much better than the pop rock of the 70s

I do like the earlier line up. They had a few LPs oot wi this line up. They did a great track called "Somebody's Gonna Get Their Head Kicked In Tonight" that was covered by The Rezillos.

Heim's cover is nice! More rock but with great respect for the original, 45 years later. But, the original songs Albatross and The green Manalishi is a must! Peter Green passed away in 2020. After he had recovered from his breakdown during the 70s he formed his "Splinter group". They were touring and making albums in the late 90s and early 00s. It is the old blues group in modern clothes matured! Try the soft modern version of Man of the world.
