As someone who has always lived in an urban city in the United States, the idea of contacting the governor, and just observing the bear until he arrives and/or handles the situation is so WILD to me.

I’m so glad that you posted this. I frequently talk about how though it looks so pretty where you live, I don’t know if I could survive there doing daily life tasks. Over here, we worry about coyotes when we walk our dogs, but I can’t imagine worrying about polar bears when walking my dogs in complete darkness!

I worked with a teacher thst had once taught in the far reaches of northern Canada. She said the same about polar bears. And in their town, if one was spotted there was an alert and basically any adult within arms reach of a child and somewhere safe would take said child in with them. Theirs or not. Because the Polar bears are dangerous

my dear, I so feel for you, you are so on my mind !!
I live in Greece. It is winter here as well. However we have sunshine most of the days. Every morning at about 7am the sun rises and I look at the pink colours against the dark sky and I think about you.
In two months, that will be a glorious midday in Svalbard..
I honestly don't know how you manage... At 11.00 pm I stay at the porch and try to absorb as much sun as possible...
There are also times when we have rain for weeks, and that can be very depressing...
