Last year I went on a “no buy” for books until I finished every single book I had on my TBR shelf. It was sooo satisfying to finish. Now my purchasing is much more under control and feels much fresher.

I have a similar mindset to buying - if I adore something I read from the library and I think I’ll reread and I want to support the author, I’ll pick up my own copy. Libraries are truly wonderful and Libby is a game changer - I save thousands of dollars a year by using my libraries!

Bookswithemilyfox was doing a "read from 1 shelf for a week" videos for a while, where she had each shelf label in a jar and would just randomly pick one and she HAD to read from that shelf for the week. I really enjoyed that concept, and appreciated it as someone that doesn't buy like, any books. I would definitely enjoy seeing you do that long term or in reading vlog format!

My biggest pet peeve is when stores put stickers on them! Like

I'm trying to read from my own shelves as well because I bought those books for a reason. Sometimes it's almost like the second I own a book it's no longer shiny and appealing so I go looking for the next thing once again. I love all of your content, so I'm excited for whatever you do.

I clicked this immediately because my first thought was "oh no she's deleting her channel" but after thinking for more than two seconds I get it! I also have a problem with buying tons of books that I never get around to reading and it makes me super guilty so I am also trying to scale back. Also, Book hauls are fun but honestly I usually don't gravitate to them as much because I like to hear more about them and about your thoughts so I support your decisions and I'm glad your life is changing for the better and that you are able to make these decisions confidently! <333

I'm with you with book buying habits. In the last few years I have completely switch to just using the library for books. The only books I ever buy are either ones that I'm either super excited for (like from a favorite author) or ones that the library will likely never purchase but I want to read. Other than that it's just books as gifts or giveaways. It for sure makes life easier!

I personally love reading books digitally, it’s a lot more accessible for me. My library offers audiobooks as well as kindle editions and epubs, so as someone with a learning disability there’s multiple options and ways I can customize the font and type face so it’s easier for me to read, and it’s so much easier to carry around one tablet with multiple books in the library rather than trying to carry multiple physical copies. Also, it saves paper and I have often found that an ebook version is less expensive than most printed copies because it cuts out the extra cost of materials. I wish more people who make content about books would mention digital content as an option because anyone who is able to interact with social media already has a device capable and most public libraries have apps for free that allow access.

I think that observing our habits and having better goals in terms of shopping helps to feel better when we buy a new book and over all, being even more excited for the new purchase. And just like you, I prioritize those who I have read and enjoyed and I know I will re-read them in the future

I think this is super smart. I do enjoy watching book videos but I read all my books via my library either physical books or ebooks. I do have a short list of "maybe I'll buy them at some point" books that I've read and loved. I just have so many other things that I wish to spend my money on when there are free options available to me :)

I think you would love The Broken Girls by Simone St. James. It's half historical, half modern-day and the 2 timelines intertwine SO WELL!

I totally agree with your short chat at the end of your video. I personally, most of the time, only buy books that I've really enjoyed and could see myself reading again. I love reading books from my library, mainly from Libby these days 📚😊 P.s. I appreciate how well spoken and engaging you are in your videos.

This is exactly where I am in life as well. Between working full time and having a toddler, I rarely have the time or ability to pick up my physical books like I used to. I get so excited about some or in a certain phase and buy, but don’t get right to them...and then there they sit. I recently bought myself a kindle paperwhite and I have boxes to donate to my local library to move forward on the same foot as you!!

Your explanation for why you won't be buying books anymore is exactly the same situation I've been in in the last year or so and I love that other people are having a similar experience as well ❤ I've cherished the books that I read so much more now that I'm not buying them constantly and its so refreshing and way less stressful on me as a reader

powering through the audiobooks for king of scars and rule of wolves honestly saved me while going thru a tough time. i thought they were so so fun and immersive. also wanted to say that since discovering ur channel i've been so tempted to read more romance - i just picked up punk 57, which i don't think i ever would have done otherwise lmao

Where the crawdad sings is good! It’s a little of thriller and about her growing up.

I justify my book buying habit with the knowledge that I'm supporting authors when I buy their book!
