I've jumped off there many times. You have to know the time of year to do it. Usually June-September is good. As the year hits November, the waves, current, and tides are very unpredictable and even good swimmers can have a rough go at it. Always have a Swim-buddy or don't go.

People will always go to places they shouldn't for safety's sake. We have similar problems on the Great Lakes. People think "it's a lake" how dangerous can it be? Kayakers especially do not understand the currents and large waves on the lake. There are also undertows. More signage may get people to rethink about swimming at China Walls. 🏊‍♀🚫🏊‍♀

A big sign that reads "Tourists that swim here will drown" should be posted. I'm not making a joke, that spot is dangerous. For decades Ive seen more tourists almost drown at Portlock compared to any other place. I hope the young man has a 100% recovery.
