Rutgers Football 2024 Record Prediction & Analysis

The 2024 College Football season is just around the corner, and I want to zoom in on Big Ten Football to preview the 2024 Rutgers Scarlet Knights Football team and give my predictions for and analysis of Greg Schiano's team. Last season Rutgers finished with a 7-6 (3-6) record, playing in a bowl game for the first time since 2014. Greg Schiano has done a great job at recruiting, developing, and retaining talent that is capable of competing with fellow Big Ten teams. What helps Rutgers this year is that they return a strong defense and offensive line from last year. Even with a devasting injury to linebacker Mohamed Toure, Tyreem Powell, Aaron Lewis, Flip Dixon, Desmond Igbinosun, and Robert Longerbeam will anchor a great defense, one that is especially strong at defending the pass. Rutgers also has an easy schedule, avoiding Ohio State, Oregon, Penn State, Michigan, and Iowa. My record prediction for Rutgers is a 10-3 record with a loss to Texas A&M in the Citrus Bowl. Rutgers could easily go 8-4/9-3 instead of 10-2. It is probably more likely they win 8 or 9 games as compared to 10. However, their win total is only 6.5 and I am confident Rutgers surpasses that number. Their defense is stacked and outside of Virginia Tech, Wisconsin, and maybe Nebraska they will not face a good offensive line that can test the DL. When I look at this offense, the only way you are stopping the rushing attack is if you have one of the best defensive fronts in the Big Ten, or perhaps all of football. Rutgers conveniently avoids the best 5 teams in the Big Ten, and the conferences 4 best defenses.

With divisions being dissolved, and having a more balanced schedule Rutgers will have a much better record moving forward. Last year they went from Ohio state to Iowa to Penn state. You play those three teams in a row you get gradually worn down. Based on academics / geographic location/ school size, this team should become a quasi blue blood program. Similar to what Villanova on a much smaller scale in basketball on the football side.

RU fan here. Being realistic, hoping for 8 wins. Kaliakmanis is a marginal improvement. Returning production % is of limited value…in that it’s the same team as last year with potentially no improvement. Schedule is in RU’s favor for sure.
