Offshore Rope Access Inspection - Rope to Rope Transfer Galore

Показать описание
A windy rope access inspection day offshore. I found this footage on a hard drive and decided to make a video where you can see how the rope access training video's I have been releasing here at The Rope Access Channel relate to the real offshore world. You can see how all the safety equipment actually makes it harder to climb safely. This was filmed about 4 years ago in december. Pretty cold, so many layers of clothing underneath that coverall, add an inflatable life jacke, a radio and a camera and soon it will be hard to see which rope leads where below the chest ascender.
I really liked this job, climbing around alone with no one really having a visual. Radio contact every few minutes and that was it. Lovely day out at sea :-)

Video's mentioned or good to watch:
How to perform a small rope to rope transfer:

How to aid climb with fixed anchors:
And how to aid climb with moveable anchors might be a good one as well:

Alex, I’d love to see more of these type of videos. You are right about watching back and feeling clumsy but everyone gets that, you look smooth from my perspective but watching myself back in a tree feels the same.

That was (is) totally awesome, you describe it well, and I Am sure it was bulky and clunky with all the clothes and jackets. The voice-over was awesome too. Please make more of these. This way I can show my people what this work is really about. Jim H.

Love it, more practical application videos please, very interesting and a good format. Don't be so hard on yourself. I think anyone who has ever worn gloves will know what you were dealing with.

Great video. It gives me an idea. Would you be interested in making a video based on your experience about different industry specializations within rope access? NDT is obviously a big one but I know there are many "trades within the trade" so to speak. I would love to hear your thoughts

Hey mate, love the channel. I'm a ropey from Australia that just moved to Norway. How do you get into working offshore? Any info would be appreciated. Tickets, courses you need to do etc. I'm lv2 and worked highrise construction back in Aus.
Cheers

Hi, thanks really informative video... I'd like to know how your supervisor put the aid ropes / work positioning in place.. are they done from above or descending? Thanks

great video, i would personally use two IDs there and not bother with the croll, nothing worse than a lifejacket and winter clothing to make thisng 10 times harder!

I have a question, how are you mitigating the risk of the working line failure when you have put yourself in the position of having your rig and your ASAP on the same line. Your are basically doing a rope to rope transfer with three points of contact which does not meet the requirements of IRATA.
In my mind if that line fails then you are going to shock load your back up line with a toothed device or have I missed something when watching the video.

Hard work. But wow! your supervisor was so careful as to pull the tail ends of F8's up so they don't bother you? This is really awesome...

I'm a foreman for a rope access company wanting to travel and go offshore. Any good contractors to apply for?

Hi, I’m in the same line of work, drops inspection, rope access rigging.

I was wondering what camera you are using? They are very strict on electronics outside accommodation on these rigs, so was wondering if you had a recommendation for what is safe to use.

Ah, so you're an NDT inspector? I don't think you've ever mentioned your trade. I am thinking of going into either insulation, masonry, inspection (Start out with Ultra Sonic testing first and get the other tickets as I go), or electrical/ plumbing I'm torn between the two. I will be breaking it down having 3 of the 5 and from there 2 and whatever I choose in the end.

Was there other application outside of EMS/ SAR/ Military/ Police work that I didn't mention?
