An often left out statistic concerning diversity, or lack of, is violent crime rates. Is it strange that in most of the states mentioned here, violent crimes are committed far less than in other states? It seems with the lack of diversity, also comes the lack of need for a gang division, or major crime division at local police stations.. something to consider if your attracted to family safety & security.

If diversity equals skin color West Virginia is not diverse, but if diversity means ethnic diversity then West Virginia is diverse. Traversing down I-79 at the right time of year you can visit an Appalachian, Scots Irish, fall festival, an Italian Festival, an Irish road bowling tournament, and with a slight diversion east the little Swiss town of Helvetia. I have a friend, who appears Mexican, but his name is Swiss. Turns out one ancestor was a Swiss Mercenary. There are also concentrations of black hillbillies, descended from freed slaves whose ancestors were freed slaves, who found work in the proliferation of mines that opened after the Civil War and, of course, building the railroads to haul coal, timber, and steel out.
