It’s so strange how this is not wider known! I’m 40 years old, always struggled with fatigue / feeling tired. I was diagnosed with depression first many years ago which later changed to chronic fatigue syndrome, then when that didn’t work I was sent for sleep test. On my second home sleep test (one that checked for the awakenings) I was told I have UARS. It just seems strange that when I was younger having 7 teeth out to make room in my mouth for my brace to work didn’t raise a red flag. I tried CPAP for a year on different pressures but it always filled my stomach with air. Unfortunately I’ve suffered with excess stomach acid for years so it’s probably taken a toll on it. I don’t know what to try next.

Why doesn't Dr Jerald Simmons talk about the non-anatomical phenotypes of OSA like Loop Gain, Arousal Threshold etc? Is OSA all about the physical airway, and not the way we breathe and oral posture of the tongue?

Hi @BirdyOdd, I’m sorry to hear you are finding about sleep disordered breathing later in life but the good news is you can get to the root cause at any age. I recommend you find an Airway Dentist to guide you on appropriate next steps. You can find an Airway Dentist on our AHS Dentist Locator
Good luck and let us know how you make out. Thanks!
