I’ve studied Aztec military history and culture while I was at University, I was also a Marine, so here are some ideas on some of the key elements of Aztec training: Running and rucking at high altitudes at high intensity, preferably with large amounts of weight. It’s a misconception that Mexica warriors would’ve travelled light. There were no animals of burden to wage conflict, so it’s likely these guys had to supply themselves on campaigns relying on what they could carry or hunting off the land. Some of the best long distance runners are the descendants from the Aztecs, the Tarahumara, they sometimes run 50 to 60 miles a day through the Copper Canyons of Mexico. One Aztec Warrior workout would go something like this: 10 mile ruck through rough mountainous terrain with all of the gear to spend an indefinite amount of time out in the cold. Then gathering large amounts of water, carry it all to high ground, build a fighting position, and hunker down. Those were some tough guys, and probably had some ripped abs 😂Proud to be Mexican!

I'm a Native Mexican American and I try to educate myself as much as I can about my roots and culture.

One thing I would like to add is that the Aztec...MEXICA people were clean.

This was such a great series. As a fitness instructor who also studied historical combat, I didn't always agree with the exercise selections, but I loved the approach and analysis.

I wish there were more episodes! (Maybe a season 2???)

Thanks, guys. Learned a lot about various historical warriors thanks to this collaboration. :)

I am Mexican. I admire Aztec culture, but they were brutal oppressors. There is no way to deny it. In fact that was one of the reasons many tribes and other indigenous people allied with the Spaniards as soon as they arrived in Mexico. Hernán Cortés was successful in his conquest of the Aztec Empire thanks to thousands of warriors from those oppressed tribes.

Great episode. I like the way you closed out the show as "Ancient Omar". Which isn't the title of the show and you nearly forgot to mention your own name. Made me chuckle.

Great video with even so great information. I always wonderred about the differences between those jaguar- and eagle warriors. But not only that, but also the other info. I'm very interested in meso-american culture.

Well the Ancient Mesoamericans basically invented medicine balls, they made would make 10 pound rubber balls from the surrounding rubber trees and play games with it, that’s one way they got jacked like imagine playing a basketball/football hybrid game throwing 10 pound balls around.
